Taste of Stavanger

Come and taste the local history.

The tour takes you through 200 years of mathistorie, and we give you a tasty way.
Through good history teaching in combination with the right flavors, this trip will be a unique experience of Stavanger.

Stavanger is today regarded as Norway's oil capital, our turn is based on what was here before the oil and what will come after.

Tour description:

We go on a journey in and around the city center, where we stop for us, what makes Stavanger to something more than just oljeby.

Rogaland has traditionally been one of the largest matfat. Our tour focuses on the flavors, smells and visuals of the story.

The tour starts in the city yesterday visiting Norwegian Canning Museum, where we tour and try us as "canning workers" and taste a selection of sardines.

In the bay we go along the old waterfront and we take a new stop to taste the herring period.

We go to the fish market for a closer look at the world's only "live" cod in slices.

Here again, we taste some of what we offer.

We looked at the characteristics of Stavanger matby today, with the width provided by the restaurants in town.

End point of the tour is at Butcher Idsøe, where we can sample specialties like lammeconfit and theater sausage.

Turtid about 2 hours.
There will be opportunities for participants and act of matfylkets specialties in the fish market and at slaughter A. Idsøe

Wayne's Coffee coming to Stvg Sentrum

"American" style - coffee & pastries, plus soup/sandwiches/American bagels...

Begun in Stockholm in 1994

100 shops, I guess 101 maybe if they count this new one in Stavanger opening up soon - prob. by summer when all the cruise ships start coming thru the harbor...

Job postings started early March, so over a month ago - ad ran in Norwegian, "Drive egen kaffeebar?" but if you translate one line under that reads: Scandinavia's largest cafe chain is now to Stavanger Storsenter...they want to win the hearts of Norwegians - cup for cup....
Today in Sentrum see there's sign in the windows across from the Steam Cafe?! One on every corner, a cafe that is - but thankfully it's not a StarBucks?! (I must be one of the few who care...)

March 25th they opened a franchise in Beijing, China & 2 more due to open is the news so I'm guessing 1 of them is here in Stavanger...

As a franchise it states on their webpage: "To do business with us you have to appreciate the Scandinavian spirit of our company. We are entrepreneurial in our minds, straight forward in the way we communicate, honest in the way we do business and curious about the world."

Wayne´s Coffee International:
China
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
Norway
Poland
Russia
Spain
Saudi Arabia
Sweden

Note:
words & photos borrowed from these 2 links, so far only Oslo franchises in Norway mentioned - can only hope the new Stavanger franchise will have something of it's own online soon?!
